Privacy policy for Margin — Article Audio
Effective October 14, 2026 · Build 0.3.1
What Margin handles
When you choose “Read this tab,” Margin reads the active page's URL and title and extracts its article text, author information when available, or your selected passage. You can instead paste text directly into the side panel. Margin uses that text to generate speech and a downloadable audio file on your device.
The text you choose may contain personal or sensitive information. Margin processes it locally in the same way as other article text. It does not request an account, your identity, passwords, payment details, or access to email accounts.
How the information is used
Page information is used only to identify the article, display its source, request access to that website when necessary, and convert the text into speech. Margin reads content when you ask it to. It does not monitor your browsing history, log keystrokes, or track visits in the background.
Local processing and sharing
The speech model, pronunciation engine, and runtime are bundled with the extension. Text and generated audio are processed in your browser's memory. Margin does not upload them to its developer, KittenML, or any hosted AI service. The extension has no analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, or remote inference service. Your article information and audio are not sold or shared with third parties.
Storage and deletion
Current article text and temporary audio are held in the open side panel and its worker. Closing the side panel discards that session and stops generation. A new article or generation replaces the current working content. Margin does not maintain an article library or save article text to persistent extension storage.
When you choose “Save WAV,” Chrome saves the audio file to your device using its normal download behavior. That file remains until you delete it. Chrome manages granted website permissions and may retain ordinary browser installation and download records independently of Margin.
Your control over access
Website access is requested for the site you ask Margin to read, through Chrome's permissions. You can revoke site access in Chrome's extension settings or uninstall Margin. Pasting text and generating audio do not require website access. Keep the side panel open only as long as you want its current session retained.
Limited use
Margin's use of information received through Chrome permissions follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Information is used only for the visible article-to-audio feature, not for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, lending, or unrelated purposes. The developer does not receive or manually review your article text or generated audio.
Support and this website
For questions, contact cgahafer89@gmail.com. If you contact the publisher yourself, your message and any information you choose to include are handled separately from the extension's local processing. Do not include sensitive article text or recordings in support requests unless you intend to share them.
This policy page contains no analytics scripts or tracking pixels. The service that hosts this page may process ordinary HTTP request metadata under its own privacy policy. Visiting this policy page does not send your article text or audio to that host.
Policy changes
This policy will be updated if Margin's data handling changes. Its effective date identifies the current version.
